#9 Wheel of Life Free Sweater Crochet Pattern

When I first started crochet, I knew I could never make anything like a sweater. It looked very complex and painstakingly long to complete. Imagine being surprised when I realized this was really easy! There are tons of simple yet still beautiful patterns to make your own crochet sweaters. This list is just part of what you’ll find. This pretty sweater is a great addition to your wardrobe. Light and airy, it works great over a tank or as a light sweater when the weather gets colder in the fall.

From nature, to science, to art, one thing that always strikes me is the mystery of life. I love mythology and have always been interested in visual symbolism about life and death. The Wheel of Life sweater is inspired by the mystery of life. The lily flower mimics the lily flower, which is a symbol of birth. So at the bottom of the sweater, we have the planting of flowers or the birth of life. In the yoke of the sweater there are moons and stars. I am always fascinated by the beauty of the stars and their finite life in the Universe. For me, the explosion of a star is an amazing incarnation of death. So the moons and stars symbolize death. Then between the symbols of birth and death, you have what looks slightly like a strand of DNA or the symbol of infinity. In my design this represents the wheel of life, always turning, always moving.

I wanted the beautiful textures of the two strands to stick together and of course the color work was the focus of this sweater. I chose a color palette that feels very “me” as a designer. Soft but saturated hues tend to be my favorites, and I always like to pair jewel tones with a pastel. As for the silhouette, I love things that feel elegant and elevated, where I can see a lot of people wearing and feeling great, so I always try to bring that into my design work.
